Ashley Oscienny

Coach/Owner

My name is Ashley Oscienny, and I'm one of the owners and coaches of 5040 Strength Co and a certified CrossFit Online Level One Coach.

I was born and raised here in the Alberni Valley. All my life I've been involved in sport: soccer, earning my black belt in Tae Kwon Do, swimming, water and snow sports, running, lifting weights, and in the last few years, CrossFit. I love the outdoors and staying active, as it keeps me grounded. For the past several years I've also volunteered with Alberni Valley Search and Rescue, and I've thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of an awesome team.

Health and wellness isn't just important in my life, it's also my career. I've worked in healthcare for over two decades, starting as a paramedic before going back to school to become a Registered Nurse. Working in the Emergency Department and the community, I truly see the importance of strength training.

As a cancer survivor and mom, I know firsthand why continuing to show up for myself matters. I feel so fortunate to be on this journey with my husband Darin and our partners Gabe and Ciara. I can't wait to connect with you, learn your "why," and build this functional fitness community together.

My name is Darin Sargent, I have lived most of my life here in Port Alberni. I grew up in Cherry Creek where you could regularly find me on my dirt bike riding through the trails. I enjoyed sports as a kid and played soccer. When I was 19, I found a love for martial arts including Taekwondo and later jujitsu, training at Dragon Martial arts for over two decades.

In the last several years I have found CrossFit and functional fitness, both as a participant and as a Crossfit Online Level One Coach. I enjoy the mix of barbell work, gymnastics and cardio but honestly the best part is the community.

Additionally, I have worked in Healthcare since 2004 in various roles from careaid to LPN and now RN since 2013.

I am excited to be here and look forward to working out together, learning more about you and watching this awesome 5040 community grow!!

Ciara Dixon

Coach/Owner

My name is Ciara, and I’m a proud wife and mother of three. Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, my family and I made the move to Port Alberni in 2021, and we’ve loved building our life here ever since. I am a Crossfit Online Level One Coach.

Sports and staying active have always been a huge part of who I am. From soccer and basketball to snowboarding and water skiing,I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself and trying new things. Although I had been interested in CrossFit for years, I never found the courage to take that first step until it arrived in Port Alberni. I joined within weeks of the gym opening and instantly fell in love—not just with the workouts, but with the incredible sense of community that functional fitness creates.

As someone who thrives on connection, becoming a Coach, specifically a kids' coach, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my journey. For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of watching children walk through the gym doors feeling nervous and unsure, then leave with new found confidence, strength, and pride in what they can accomplish. Seeing that transformation is what inspires me every day.

My goal at 5040 is to help create a welcoming community where individuals and families can discover a love for fitness together, build life long healthy habits, and inspire future generations to embrace an active, confident lifestyle.

GAbriel Jimenez

Coach/Owner

Hi my name is Gabriel. I moved to Port Alberni with my wife and kids in 2021 and have built my career in the construction industry. Outside of work, fitness has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve trained in boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and have spent most of my life in the weight room.

As a CrossFit Level One Coach, I’ve had the opportunity to share that passion with others through functional fitness. I’m excited to continue learning, growing as a coach, and helping build a strong, supportive community here at 5040 Strength Co.

Kaley pugh

Coach

My name is Kaley Pugh, and I'm one of 5040's coaches. I grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and my husband and I moved to the Alberni Valley in the summer of 2018. We love our new home (especially the bit about it never being -40 here!)

I did a few sports as a kid, including karate, horseback riding, and rugby, but like many young adults, fitness fell by the wayside for a few years. I discovered CrossFit at a great gym in Saskatoon in December 2012, and it honestly changed my life. I was nervous to start but was hooked almost immediately, becoming a dedicated five-day-a-weeker and getting into competitive Olympic-style weightlifting. Fitness with friends became my biggest stress relief and helped me get my mental and physical health under control.

I earned my Crossfit Level 1 Coach after moving to Port Alberni, since there wasn't a functional fitness gym here yet and I wanted to keep coaching my husband and friends. I've coached for a few years now and love introducing people to the joys of functional fitness in a fun, supportive community.

Even though my competitive days are behind me, I'm still a weightlifter at heart, and I enjoy helping people with the technical art of throwing barbells around.

Lindsay mcivor

Coach

Hi! I'm Lindsay McIvor, one of the coaches and athletes at 5040 Strength Co. I've been an athlete for as long as I can remember, competing in gymnastics, volleyball, and fastball growing up, and now in my 30s, sport and fitness remain a cornerstone of my life.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in Physical Education, spent 10 years coaching gymnastics as a Level 2 certified coach, and judged the sport as a Level 4 judge. That background carried naturally into CrossFit, where gymnastics movements are my favourite to perform and coach. I love helping athletes build confidence and celebrate those exciting "firsts"—a first pull-up, handstand, rope climb, or muscle-up.

I discovered CrossFit in 2022 and was hooked once a local Port Alberni gym opened in 2023. I earned my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certification in 2024 and have since completed the CrossFit Educators courses for coaching children.

As an elementary school teacher, I thought coaching adults would be enough—but our youth classes revealed another passion. Whether you're stepping into the gym for the first time or chasing your next goal, I'm excited to be part of your journey!
